HMPGA Employment             GEOLOGIST/HYDROGEOLOGIST

Alpha Geoscience has an immediate position for a qualified geologist/ hydrogeologist with zero to five years experience in its Clifton Park, N.Y. office.  The candidate should have self-initiative and the self-discipline to function effectively in a professional working environment.  The position requires Bachelors and Masters degrees in geology or hydrogeology.  Periodic overnight travel is required.

The position will include work on a variety of projects, including:

  • Water Supply Evaluation and Development
  • Petroleum and Waste Site Investigation/Remediation
  • Geologic and Hydrogeologic Studies (mines, critical facilities, residential and commercial developments, landfills, etc.)
  • Environmental Site Evaluations (Phase I and Phase II investigations)

SENIOR GEOLOGIST / SCIENTIST / ENGINEER

Description of Work
THE POSITION SERVES AS GEOPHYSICS ENGINEER IN THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT GROUP OF THE SUPPORT SERVICES SECTION.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: MANAGE UNIT'S GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION PROGRAM. DEVELOP GEOPHYSICAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION SURVEY PLAN AND CONDUCT OR DIRECT GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY OPERATION. CONDUCT UNKNOWN FOUNDATION INVESTIGATION. EVALUATE SCOUR CRITICAL ELEVATION ANALYSIS. ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A GEOTECHNICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. ASSIST IN TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FOR THE UNIT. DEVELOP GEOTECHNICAL POLICIES, GUIDELINES, SPECIFICATIONS, STANDARDS, OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES AND MANUALS. PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE REGIONAL OFFICES INCLUDING VIBRATION MONITORING. PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GEOPHYSICAL SERVICES AGREEMENT. PARTICIPATE GEOPHYSICS RELATED RESEARCH, CONFERENCE AND TRAINING.

Knowledge , Skills And Abilities
HAVE EXCELLENT KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN GEOPHYSICAL SUBSURFACE  INVESTIGATION AND TESTING. PROFICIENCY IN USING GEOPHYSICAL EQUIPMENT  SUCH AS: GPR, SEISMOGRAPH, EM AND DOWNHOLE CAMERA. HAVE EXCELLENT  WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

Training and Experience Requirements
GRADUATION FROM A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH A DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING AND FOUR YEARS OF PROGRESSIVE TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND  DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE.
